The institute looks back at a long history. It was founded in 1962 by Bruno Kreisky and prominent politicians of the "Third World", as a think tank for global development issues. With the establishment of kulturen in bewegung and fairplay, two initiatives were founded at the Institute in the 1990s to introduce further important aspects of a dialogue at a 'level playing field'.

As an active part of civil society, VIDC cooperates with many partners inside and outside Austria. But we also want to support, mobilise and offer initiatives a platform for networking.
