a new Toolkit on Feminist Organizing, designed specifically for Diaspora Organizations.
When: May 22, 2025 | 15:00 – 16:30 CEST
Where: Microsoft Teams
Language: English
Target audience
This event is relevant for diaspora actors, donors, institutions, experts and other stakeholders with an interest in feminist organizing, transformative leadership and feminist resourcing.
Objectives
- Awareness & Capacity: To highlight challenges faced by diaspora women and marginalized groups, and introduce tools to integrate feminist principles into organizing efforts.
- Exchange & Discussion: Create a space for dialogue and shared learning on feminist organizing and transformative leadership within diaspora contexts.
Background
Strengthening diaspora feminist organizing capacity is essential to recognizing the diverse experiences of diaspora women, providing resources to challenge systems of inequality, and harnessing their potential as leaders and changemakers.
Diaspora initiatives play a crucial role in contributing to change in their countries of origin and in promoting the participation of diaspora communities in their societies of residence. Yet, women in diaspora often face unique and intersected challenges related to their status as both migrants and women.
This online launch introduces a new Feminist Organizing Toolkit designed for diaspora organizations. The toolkit provides practical tools and resources to integrate feminist principles into organizing efforts while addressing the unique challenges of diaspora women and marginalized groups. The event will feature a panel discussion with diaspora women leaders, sharing their experiences and insights into feminist organizing in practice - approaches that have influenced the development of the toolkit.
The toolkit was commissioned by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC) and developed together with Nora Ragab and the Danish Refugee Council’s Diaspora Programme (DRC DP).
